Heechin Chae, M.D., FAAPMR is the Chair, Department of PM&R at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and Associate Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Chae is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Brain Injury Medicine, and Pain Medicine. He has additional training for medical acupuncture. He spent 13 years at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston where he held the faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of PM&R. He was involved in extensive research and teaching activities while treating patients with mild, moderate, and severe TBI. After serving as the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Program at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, he started a new Interdisciplinary TBI Center for Active Duty Service members at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in 2011. Dr. Chae has been recognized throughout his career with numerous awards, including the Teacher of the Year Award, the Young Mentor Award from Harvard Medical School, “Medical All-Star” by the Boston Red Sox, and the highest civilian achievement award from the Department of Defense. He received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Virginia and a Doctor of Medicine from Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed his Medical Internship and PM&R residency through Harvard Medical School system.
