BIOMARKER STUDY

Title: Biomarkers of Stroke Recovery (BIOREC)

Status: Actively recruiting

Sponsor: National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, National Institutes of Health, through the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program.  Additional funding through the Georgetown Partners in Research Program.

PI: Matthew Edwardson

Purpose: The molecular changes responsible for brain repair following stroke in humans are largely unknown.  The BIOREC study seeks to assess whether molecular markers, including changes in fats, proteins and DNA/RNA, can be detected in the peripheral blood during the first month of stroke recovery to provide insight into human brain repair mechanisms.
