Georgetown University Medical Center in conjunction with MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital offers an ACGME-accredited fellowship in sports medicine.
The fellowship will provide an additional year of training to develop skills necessary for the management of musculoskeletal injuries, including injuries to the spine, tendons, ligaments, and joints, as well as neurologic injuries including concussions and nerve injuries.
In addition to the outpatient clinic experience at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, the fellow will have the opportunity to complete rotations with orthopaedic surgery, as well as physicians from family medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and radiology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
The fellow will receive instruction and hands-on experience with diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, including image-guided procedural skills. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity for training in fluoroscopic-guided spine and joint procedures.
The fellow will also have the opportunity to work closely and train with sports medicine physicians and athletic training staff for a variety of sports teams and colleges in the Washington, DC area. The primary teams for training room and event coverage are the Georgetown University Hoyas, the George Washington University Colonials, and the Washington Nationals. The fellow will also have the opportunity to perform pre-participation physical examinations and provide medical coverage for mass participation events.
The program is open to applicants who are board certified or board eligible in physical medicine and rehabilitation, family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, and emergency medicine.
